SUPER GT

TRD has supported a number of factory-backed racing activities related to Toyota vehicles in a number of motorsports categories. In the 1980s, we provided chassis and engine development support for both Group A and Group C vehicles. This included help for domestic activities as well as activities for international races such as the Le Mans 24 race. The 1990s saw us assist with the JTCC (Japan Touring Car Championships) and JGTC (Japan GT Championships), while providing support for Toyota motorsports in developing SUPER GT racecars that saw a rebirth as an international series in 2005.

The TRD-developed SC430 took part in the SUPER GT touring car race, called the fastest such race in the world. Racing vehicles based on the Lexus RC F have been newly introduced as the team’s official vehicles for 2014.

ALL SEASON DEVELOPMENT & SUPPORT SYSTEM

In contrast to many other vehicle manufacturers, who outsource chassis and engine development to different companies, TRD develops both in-house, allowing us to have good solutions ready even in the middle of a season. The vehicles we develop and manufacture are delivered to racing teams. On top of this, the racing teams also fine tune the vehicles for the actual races. Whether in the on or off season, TRD remains dedicated to developing vehicles. In addition to incorporating feedback from each team into vehicle design, we consistently review in qualities such as aerodynamics and engine characteristics and conduct endurance tests along with a battery of other tests.

All vehicles feature engines designed by TRD. In addition to tuning suited to GT racing, TRD handles everything, including mounting and technical support during races. While each vehicle is being set up by its team, they coordinate with TRD to begin the race. TRD also manages all Lexus teams. TRD participates not as a team but as a developmental and technical support unit for all Lexus teams, bringing a passion to improving the performance of Lexus GT vehicles throughout the season.
